The Run Catalina Team
The Run Catalina team, and our Island Partners, are working hard under these difficult conditions to provide as many opportunities to run and experience the beauty and challenge of Catalina Island under the current restraints. While we appreciate your disappointment in not running this past weekend, we are equally disappointed as a year of work, planning, and marketing has gone into this run by our staff and our partners on the island.
As a small business and small staff who take pride in our events and the runner experience we provide, we are all looking forward to getting past this current state of uncertainty and being back to planning events for your enjoyment in the very near future.
The following are the four options for your deferral around the postponement of the 2020
Catalina Island Marathon.
These options will apply to all of the runs which were postponed, the marathon, 10K, 5K and kids runs
1) Defer to postponed 2020 date. The Deferred date will be either May 30th or August 29th. All entries for the respective run will automatically be deferred if the marathon morning boat ticket was purchased this will be deferred also. We expect to have a date confirmed by the end of the week. Please understand that this is a multi-party decision and we are working hard with all of the Island partners to firm up this date.
You will be automatically enrolled in this option unless you select option 2, 3 or 4 on catalinaislandmarathon.com
2) Virtual Run - Transfer your 2020 entry to our virtual option. Run 26.2 miles; 10K; 5K; in a beautiful setting, post a photo of your run, along with your results (optional) to our open Catalina Island Marathon Virtual Run Facebook Group. We will mail to you your shirt; finisher medal and if you run the marathon you will receive your year bar to keep your streak going.
How to signup for this option?
Go to catalinaislandmarathon.com and under the postponement prompt on the homepage, select ‘Switch to Virtual Race’. Next, login and or add your email to locate your registration and submit your transfer and submit. That’s it! From there, go on your run and share your experience through this Catalina Island Marathon Virtual Run Facebook Group.

We will reach out directly to understand which distance you'd like to defer to. Select this option and expect to hear from us directly in the coming days.

4) 2021 Special - Choose this option by April 12th if you'd like to register for any of our 2021 Catalina Island Marathon events at 50% off. That would put the marathon at a cost of $65.00 and the 5K or 10K at $17.50, plus processing fees. Once selecting, expect to hear from us in the coming days with your 50% coupon.

At the directive of our California Governor Gavin Newsome on March 12, 2020, and in cooperation with our landowners and partners at the Catalina Island Conservancy, we must sadly report the 2020 Catalina Island Marathon, 10k, 5k is being rescheduled from it’s traditional date of this Saturday, due to COVID-19 concerns. This is a difficult decision for everyone, but we take the health and safety of our participants, staff, and community very seriously. We urge you to follow the direction of your local health authorities and CDC as you navigate this difficult time.
We are currently working hard with our Island partners to reschedule the Catalina Island Marathon to another date in the Spring or early Fall of this year. In addition, we plan to provide options for runners to transfer their entry at no cost into the rescheduled marathon date, or into the Catalina Island Half Marathon & 10K in November. We will report back in the coming days on a solution for future participation.
If you purchased a morning boat ticket, that ticket will also be deferred to the rescheduled date along with your registration.
For ferry travel, you may call the Catalina Express 800-613-1212 to receive a full refund.
The hotels have been notified of the rescheduling and some are offering full refunds. Please call your hotel for more information.
We respect your patience and understanding as we navigate this fluid situation. As soon as we have more information about your options for future participation, we will let you know.
